Soznak the band

`Soznak` street performances create dancing in the street, illuminate grey days and create a community in Northumberland street- the UK’s most busy shopping street. The performances are totally accessible and included musical influences from all over the world. The performances convene many cultures young and old, posh dads left with their toddlers whilst their partners shop, dead beats galvanized into displays of weird dancing, teenagers admiring photogenic percussionists and jazz fiends digging sloppy jazz. This is the music of the north east of England’s multicultural society and includes musical influences from Iraq, Angola, Cuba, Spain. Large crowds have gathered in the street to enjoy these performances and spontaneous eruptions of joy have been common.  Paul bream of jazz north refers to Soznak as the Multicultural guerrillas.

Hi,

Saw you playing in Northumberland Street today and thought you were great. I wondered how much you’d charge to play at an event.

Not sure yet whether this idea has any potential, but I work at Northumbria University, and I’m organising the student welcome event – an event which runs three times over the course of the afternoon of Monday 17th September. We were just going to play some pop songs as people entered the hall, but now I am wondering whether some live music would be better.

The reason I am not sure this idea would work is that the event is taking place in Sport Central, which is essential a big sports hall. We will be installing staging and some professional AV equipment, but, even with those things installed, the acoustics are still not great. So not sure whether your music would work in those conditions. Anyway, I thought I’d get in touch to see if it’s the kinda thing you might be interested in, and, if so, how much you’d charge to play a few songs three times over the course of an afternoon.

I am about to go holiday abroad for a couple of weeks, as of Monday morning, so, if you email me, I may not get your response for a little while…but I’ll pick it up when I get back.

Cheers, and keep up the great work!
